Thanks for doing that.

That first link gives me some results, now to go look at the code that did it.

I just sent my reply to admin's email, you know that SysOp.

The stuff posted here will give me what I was asking for it looks like. I'll get back to it when time permits.

No problemOh!

Ps, did you change those three files yet? Or are you still skittish doing that stuff?

A reminder, you just change the name of the working file copy ubb is using now, like add a prefix to the file name in windows-explorer, and rename the ones I added 'changed-' to removng the prefix 'changed-' part only and the program will use the new file if you were not prevented from making the initial file name change because 'it is in use'. Or a restart/reboot may kick it into using it. You know the directories to find them in, if not refer to my previous instructions again.

What will we win?

User ease and an addition to the open source community with a new feature. But it looks like it already is in, just not displayed as we were used to. I barely glanced at the above code and the link I referred to above, is what the job he wants done is doing.

I just uploaded the files newreply.inc.php and showflat.inc.php to the Server

I cannot upload the file createtable.php because that is from the install directory

And the install directory gets deleted after an initial installation or an upgrade

I just tested it and it didn't work

It's not your fault, I just don't know how to upgrade the createtable.php without doing an upgrade and I don't know how to do an upgrade for just one file

If you can figure this out, that would be awesome and amazing

Don't kill yourself trying to figure this out though

If I had the money, I would just pay a pro in php to do this, but I don't have the money to spend on this right now

Well this Forum software is not open source. I had to pay to use it. I paid for a one year license

Some ubb modifications are shared for free, others, the creator sells the mod for a price

I'm going to make you a Global Mod here and give you access to the Control Panel

To change the Header on Top:

Portal Page - Forum List - My Stuff - User List Calendar - Active Topics - Search - FAQ

Control Panel > Display Options > Templates

header.tpl

We would have to add the Self Search link there

That's the easy part

Creating the selfsearch.inc.php file would be the hard part

That, I would have to upload the file to the scripts directory on the server (once that file is made)

If you edit the header.tpl, just make sure you copy/paste a backup

I don't think I have a backup for all them .tpl files

Ok I just made you Global Moderator

I had to login as Admin to do that

On the Header on Top you will now see:

Control Panel - Portal Page - Forum List - My Stuff - User List - Calendar - Active Topics - Search - FAQ

Click on the Control Panel

You will see almost everything there that an Admin would see

I do not share private info with anyone, I'm not into crazy shit like that

If you ever edit the header.tpl, just make sure you copy/paste the info there into a txt file to have a backup

One more thing, and this is weird

When I browsed MediaWiki (I was thinking of installing that here)

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:LocalSettings.php

It says on top there:

Warning: Don't edit this file with Notepad or other text editor that adds byte order marks to files, or you will break your wiki.

I looked into it. You can't edit the MediaWiki php files with regular Notepad because it adds BOM to the file

You can use Notepad++ instead

http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

After you install Notepad++

Encoding > Encode in UTF-8 without BOM

(I think that is ok. I am not 100% sure. This shit is very confusing to me)

I have not asked the guys at ubb.threads, what they use, to edit php files

I'll ask them next time

If we have to create new tables (or whatever you call them) in the MYSQL Database for the self search to work, than this will be much much harder to accomplish

I have no idea if we can get the self search to work with the existing tables in the MYSQL. I hope so
